Watch Me Pull a Planet Out of My Hat
The Process:
For my Beyond The Screen final, we had to create some kind of animation to be projected on a wall, building, in the street, on trees, wherever we wanted. Then we had to put together a presentation that showed the process of how we made the visuals and include film of the projection and present it to the class.
I chose to project some planets above an upturned hat and make it look like the planets were coming out of the hat. I created the planets in Cinema 4D, animated them rotating, then brought the footage into After Effects and animated them rotating around a central planet. Then I filmed a flashlight spinning on my turntable, brought it into After Effects |
where I masked out the background and the base of the turntable. Next, I squashed the turntable to make it look like a spaceship. Then placed the footage of the planets over the turntable. Using scale and positioning, I animated the planets spinning up out of the spaceship, expand and rotate for a bit, then spin back into the spaceship.
There were of course technical issues with the projection, and the footage ended before the planets returned to the mothership. But everyone enjoyed it and no one noticed that the footage did not complete. All in all, it was a lot of fun. |
